This is a great opportunity for your squires to learn more about the virtues and work on self improvement and service to others. Some schools incorporate this program into their preparations.
Each squire is required to wear a tabard with a coat of arms attached. Tabards may be supplied by the school or family. Tabards and coat of arms must be worn during the event. The coat of arms may be created directly on the tabard or on a separate piece of fabric and attached to the tabard.
Each squire is expected to carefully read the packing list and prepare accordingly.
The temperatures do drop into the 30's. Please make sure that your squire is properly prepared.
A downloadable copy of the packing list is available below.
Each school will set up their own camping equipment in a designated area. Schools may opt for a few large tents or have students in smaller or individual tents.
Each school must have 2 overnight chaperones assigned to camp, in separate tents, with the class. It is recommended that there be one female and one male chaperone.
All tents should be well anchored with heavy duty stakes, it gets windy, and set up on tarps.
The nights are very cold. Squires should have a thin mat (no air mattresses allowed) and a 0 degree rated sleeping bag.
A tabard is constructed from a 1/2 yard of fabric, approximately 60 inches wide.
#1 Cut the fabric into 1/2 yard (18") lengths.
#2 Fold the fabric in half with the selvage together and cut a head hole in the center of the fold.
#3 If the fabric unravels easily, you may need to hem the edges. Finish the sides of the tabard by folding over the edge approximately 3/8 of an inch and sew with a zigzag stitch.
#4 Make a pair of ties for each side (4 total) from surplus fabric or with bias tape and sew securely at the midsection. Note: ties are recommended as belts often fall off.
#5 Place the school name on the back of the tabard so that it can be easily seen on the field.
#6 Put the coat of arms on the front of the tabard. The coat of arms may be created directly on the tabard or on a separate piece of fabric and attached.
Please note: Purple is the color reserved for royalty. Tabards may be any other color.
Each student will create their own design , reflective of
their interests, character, and artistic sense.
The design may be stitched, painted, or drawn.
