I am very happy that the Medieval Games are available to Waldorf 6th graders. I feel more confident in my abilities after the Medieval Games. Before the games I was shy and didn't like talking to people I didn't know. Now I am more comfortable talking to others and making friends.
The games bettered me mentally and physically. Thank you to those who put the games together; and thank you to the teachers that helped. I loved everyone's humor, definitely the king's!
The Medieval Games team does an incredible service to modern day youth by running this program. In a time when chivalry, honor & virtue are practically a mockery in our current society, this dedicated group of professionals goes above and beyond to provide a real experience of uprightness through knighthood. From the activities to the role of the court to the guardians of the shires, the attention to detail and ethics is impeccable. This experience is truly transformational to all the participants, young and old alike.
Words cannot express the appreciation I feel for the incredible efforts made by you, the generous volunteers, to create this profound experience for our children as they move into this next phase of development. You have given them challenges, new perspectives and a golden rite of passage. I can only imagine the Herculean efforts and planning that must go into an experience like this, and I am in awe of the community of people who have shown up for these kids and our families in this way. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

I have participated as a teacher in the Medieval Games 3 times. After 40 years of being a teacher and a child, I will state this is the single most transformative and inspirational child event I've ever attended in my life. I cannot wait for the next one.
An amazing time and right of passage for the students- Medieval Games are a joy to witness and a wonder for our children. In those 3 days we saw our children grow in a way that we had never seen before. We could see confidence in their eyes when we picked them up that had not been there when we dropped them off at the beginning of the Games. As a volunteer it was a pleasure to support our children behind the magic of the Games and know that we were helping all of the students.
*The Medieval Games is truly the most magical event that takes place at Desert Marigold and will undoubtedly be one of the most memorable of our girls’ childhood. This event in particular is what made my daughter want to attend DMS and she recently said that she really felt like she became a knight during her quest so many years ago! ...We believe the amazing rite of passage is the very essence of a Waldorf education and is the true culmination of what our children will take away from their years at this school. It
has been a powerful experience for them...and it has made them better people. We can not emphasize enough the importance of this tradition or the depth of gratitude we feel for the faithful service and sacrifice that you have given to ensure its success. The Medieval Games are life changing because of you.
The Medieval Games is probably the most anticipated event of my children's education and was the final deciding point when we chose to drive the extra miles for a Waldorf education. I love how immersive it is as the children learn history through living the experience. We are gifted with the added bonus of a Royal Court and Knights who go out of their way to provide an accurate depiction of the era. The Games is always well run, thoughtful to the last detail, and safe. I have volunteered a few times in the kitchen simply because I love to be a part of the experience, and cherish this experience for all 6th graders each year.
Thank you so much for hosting the Medieval Games Games! It was a truly amazing experience for students and teachers alike.
What a fantastic experience it was. I keep thinking about what it really meant to all of the participants, children and grown ups alike, and I am ever more moved as I live in the memories. I know that my students were very greatly enriched by their participation in this amazing event.
You will witness a beautiful transformation in your child where self-confidence replaces neediness, accountability replaces forgetfulness, and honor becomes an integral part of his/her personality.
I just wanted to say that I thought the Medieval Games was a truly amazing event from start to finish….My students will be talking about their experiences for a very long time.
The significance of this event was something unexpected by this visitor from Prescott. I have been in awe of the effort that went into creating such an incredible experience for all of the children, and for my own 6th grader, Arwynn. I am so very grateful.
Mud pits, bonfires, feasts, fasts, laughter, tears, swords, songs - the Medieval Games has it all. And at the heart of all the wonderful pageantry is something very real, something you can see clearly in the faces of the 6th grade squires striving to be recognized as knights. What a gift to volunteer side-by-side so many others and be present to glimpse the magic. This is what community looks like!
I remember that after the mud pit we would shower off with the garden hose. We slept with like 30 people in one 10 person tent but overall I would do it again. In fact, I went back for the next 3 years as a knighted volunteer.
I was a parent volunteer during my son's 6th grade Medieval Games. Wanting to get the full experience, I volunteered to camp out and chaperone the girls overnight. I was nervous that the girls would try to "sneak out" but instead they giggled...long into the night. It was fun to hear even when I was encouraging them to just go to sleep.
The Medieval games are one of my favorite things. I enjoy that we host the event and how the campus is transformed. I enjoyed the community respect of it all and how the 4 or 5 different schools come together to pull off this amazing event. I love that the students have these significant individual and team/group challenges to conquer. I feel it gives them a sense of accomplishment and something to be proud of. I also enjoyed working with Colleen in the kitchen. She has everything planned down to the second and the food is delicious. As I said one of my favorite events.
